The handle changes how a garden tool feels, performs and sells. Wood, fiberglass and steel each suit a different customer, price level and working environment.

Wood handles remain popular because they feel natural, absorb vibration and give a traditional appearance. Ash and other suitable hardwoods can provide reliable strength, but moisture control, grain direction and surface finishing must be consistent. Poorly selected wood may warp or crack during storage and use.

Fiberglass handles offer good weather resistance and do not shrink or absorb moisture like wood. They are commonly chosen for professional and mid-to-high-level retail tools. The quality of the fiberglass tube, wall thickness, internal reinforcement and connection design all affect performance. A fiberglass label alone does not guarantee strength.

Steel handles provide consistent dimensions and are easy to combine with shaped grips and custom colors. They work well for value-focused retail programs and products that require a uniform appearance. Their disadvantages can include additional weight, vibration and the risk of corrosion if the coating is damaged.

There is no universal best handle. Buyers should select the material according to intended use, target price, climate, packaging method and customer preference, then test the complete assembled tool rather than judging the handle separately.
